This was excellent!! I highly recommend it. Written as a letter to his teenage son and what knowledge and insight was put in these pages. Deep, inspiring and moving. This book made me re-think a lot of my history.

Wow. I feel privileged to have read this book. Ta-Nehisi made me think deeply about race and the violence imposed upon the bodies of black Americans. It was refreshing to see a narrative that is so openly and unapologetically angry about the injustices inflicted. I will probably go back and go over this book again at a later point because it is extremely well-written and eloquent in its arguments that a second read might help absorb more of this masterpiece.

I went into this not knowing what the content would be. I picked it out as a library read and read it, description unread. It fits with my 2019 theme of racial reads. It is also by far the best book I've read that breaks down what is at the heart of racial issues. It gives me perspective that I wouldn't have otherwise had.

I'm suggesting everyone read this. Library read. I'm putting it on my list to have for my shelves. I'm also going to find other Coates' books and devour them. His perspective

There are hard home truths in this book / essay that I wish all Americans would read, and anyone outside our nation that wants to understand our particular pathology.
