This is a sweeping story told in retrospect by Marion Stone, the first born of identical twins born in Ethiopa in the 1950's. I didn't write this review for several days after finishing because I needed to ponder what I thought about it. There are so many themes addressed in this story: forgiveness, growing into oneself, learning about the world beyond your sphere, friendship, betrayal, etc. There are so many layers of depth to all of those in this book that it's hard to really summarize them. This is one of those sweeping epic books that will not leave you. I am forever touched. Absolutely life affirming and touching fiction. What I loved most about this book was the multi layers that peel away and leave you crying, laughing and knowing this is a superb story about love. Definitely one of those books that take you places and learn about things that you never thought you would want to know such as fistula surgery and Eritrea.
