Novels are often about personal transitions, but also sometimes about cultural or societal transitions. Things Fall Apart, the first in Chinua Achebe's African trilogy, focused on the latter kind of transition that took place when the traditional Ibo society (now called Igbo) came in contact with white Christians in late 19th century Nigeria.
