A circus that appears only at night sounds like it’ll give you delicious goose bumps, like Something Wicked This Way Comes. There is nothing sinister about this circus at all. It’s beautiful and dreamy and refreshes your soul. Two young people are bound to a competition by their magic masters. I was expecting something like this:

The circus itself is beautiful and the writing lush and descriptive (generally) but no matter how wondrous the circus is it can't make up for the lack of plot or real characters. I had no emotional connection to any with the exception (barely) of Bailey who really isn't the main character. I definitely enjoyed it until the lack of plot slowly stole what energy it had and I slogged through the second half even the climax was a slow read. Still it had some enjoyable moments and any circus fanatic
