What Members Thought

Though it´s an interesting theme and person, I thought the writing was on the one hand too conservatively religious and dramatic, even sentimental, on the other hand flippant when it tries to be humorous. I also didn´t like the blow against LGBTQ+ people in the beginning, and constant use of "negro", even if it was in citations, as it could have been explained beforehand.

This is an inspiring book about the end of slavery in the British Empire, and the man who was behind it all. Wilberforce worked tirelessly for decades before he saw the fruits of his efforts. He was an exceptional man who deserves to be more widely known. The (often horrifying) social and political landscape of the times features prominently in the narrative as well.
