If I were reading only two books on race right now (of the ones on race that I've read), I would choose Caste and How to be an Antiracist, probably in that order: first, recognize the problem, then combat it.

"Color is a fact. Race is a social construct".

A nonfiction book that makes us think. Due to the social climate this book was right on time. I learned what caste means and the sad part is we can actually see which one we belong to. Overall, I am giving it 3 stars because some parts felt disjointed and repetitive.

How can one review a book like this about people's suffering?
I went into this book in a hurry, because I was reading it for work and on such a tight schedule, but I think I'll be rereading it again to truly absorb everything in it. It's a necessary book to understand slavery and Black Lives Matter movements and understand the history of the racism in the US specifically.

This is an important book and I learned a lot. I want to continue to read books that challenge my subconscious bias, acquired as a middle-class white woman born just before the 1960s, growing up in the Midwest.
I am giving this book 4.75 stars instead of 5 stars because:
I align with the Republican party, and voted Republican in the 2016 election, and for myself and other Republicans that I know, I disagree that it was all about/only about preserving dominant caste. There are dehumanizin
