Excellent stories about the life of several generation of black women, all connected to each other in some ways. All had their own stories, their own view on life and each other. Some really amazing stories of women overcoming racism, sexism, rape, elitism, you name it, it was there. Some horrendous to read, some really hard-warming to see all of them overcome the obstacles which race, gender and their time in history has thrown at them. Shelves: uk, 21st-century

What can I say that hasn't already been said about this beautiful portrayal of the women of Britain and female britishness in the 21st century? It deserves all the praise that has been heaped upon it and then some. These characters and their distinct voices will stick with me and I feel this was truly the perfect book to end my year with.

I am reading other books that I could probably finish next week but I am tempted to wait so this can be what I cap 2020 off with! ...more
