I’ve read this several times already, the first as a young teen. This sequel to Anne of Green Gables covers two years, which is Anne ages 16-18 while she is the local school teacher.
Montgomery does a good job at making everyday life interesting—I tend to avoid everyday life in books because I get enough of it in everyday life. Still, some of the longer descriptions about nature got dull.

The Anne series is one of my nostalgic favorites, and Anne of Green Gables held up to my childhood memories upon reread. This one, however, did not. The miniseries is perfection, and I will stick with that for my Avonlea memories. I had kind of forgotten the whole Davy and Dora thing, and the messed up way that both Marilla and Anne blatantly favored Davy, the low-key racism underlying parts of the book, particularly in some of Marilla’s comments, and that my favorite guy Gil is barely in this o
