If you haven't heard of this book, you must have been living out your entire life in a sealed-off bomb shelter underground.

Author Lucy Maud Montgomery grew up on Prince Edward Island in Canada. Coincidentally, my husband also grew up in PEI and we plan to return there once we retire.

The beauty of Prince Edward Island and Lucy Maud Montgomery's visits to her Uncle's farm are what inspired her to write Anne of Green Gables. This past summer we visited that exact farm which is still owned by Lucy'

Rereading this as an adult!

While verbose, this book is a charming and heartfelt look at growing up girl and navigating one's awkwardness and character. I greatly appreciate how timeless this story is and I am happy I reread it while having my own awkward pre-teen a part of my life (stepdaughter).

What is even better about the story is how profound and advanced this story would have been when it was released. Tones of feminism and female equality and thick in this story and dear Anne doesn't comp

2.5 stars. It's not the writer or the story, it's me. I know this is a beloved classic, and I might have really enjoyed it if I had read it as a child, but now, her incessant ramblings and imagination sprees just annoyed me. (It was interesting to note that by the end of the book, Anne was only 16 1/2 years old, and had already gotten her teaching credit and was going to start teaching the following September. How times have changed.)
