I wish I had read Anne of Green Gables when I was 11 and awkward, not fitting into the world (those feelings didn't go away overnight and are not entirely gone). Anne of Green Gables acknowledges the impulse to fit in, to wear puff sleeves and have anything other than red hair and freckles.

Rereading this as an adult!
While verbose, this book is a charming and heartfelt look at growing up girl and navigating one's awkwardness and character. I greatly appreciate how timeless this story is and I am happy I reread it while having my own awkward pre-teen a part of my life (stepdaughter).
What is even better about the story is how profound and advanced this story would have been when it was released. Tones of feminism and female equality and thick in this story and dear Anne doesn't comp ...more

This is one of my favourite books of all time and Rachel McAdams' narration is absolutely fantastic. I loved this SO much. Perfect way to start spring. Now I want to devour the rest of the series, or at least until Anne and Gilbert move forward even more <3 <3
