It was heart-breaking to see how Chanel Miller had to fight against institutions and how devastating this was for her. From being anonymous to becoming famous, from being assaulted, to her being humiliated by a defence attorney, she had to endure all of it. This book took me a longtime to get through and that was because it hits so close to home for me and all women. She talked about not being able to walk down the street by herself or with a group of women without being catcalled. And when she responded in a way that the men didn't like they used derogatory words towards her. I read this for the Goodreads' book club: Diversity in All Forms! This book took me a longtime to get through and that was because it hits so close to home for me and all women. She talked about not being able to walk down the street by herself or with a group of women without being catcalled. And when she responded in a way that the men didn't like they used derogatory words towards her. She shared her frustration that the only thing she could do was stop going on walks. It wasn't fair. It wasn't her fault. She talked about the guy that went around shooting women because no one would sleep with him. He felt it was all women's fault, because no one wanted to be with him. So it was okay to kill them. She talked about domestic violence and the women that tried to escape their significant others and got killed because of it.

And lastly, she (and women in general) dealt with all these issues and problems and when a nice man was sitting next to her, he offered her part of his veggies and the first thing she did was wonder why. Is he going to poison me? What will he do if I say no? What is his reasoning behind this? etc... She had all these different thoughts and scenarios go through her head. When all the man wanted to do was be kind.
