Pride is being sold as modern take on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. I dont think this is a good description. I guess I am in the minority but I have never been a big fan of Jane Austen. I think I have read two or three of her books and I found it difficult to concentrate with pages and pages of minutia. Anyway, Pride is not that. Pride is short and to the point. I was so hyped up for this book but it didn't live up to its expectations for me. I just couldn't get into the book, the narrative didn't hook me up and I didn't like the meddling sister who decides to stop her sisters (older and younger) from spending time with the new rich kids or having any kind of relationship. This modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice was made absolutely phenomenal because the audio was narrated by Elizabeth Acevedo, spoken word poet extraordinaire. In this reiteration, high school senior Zuri Benitez, a proud and fiery Afro-Latinx is horrified when the rich Darcy family buys and renovates a dilapidated townhouse in her Bushwick neighborhood.
