3.5/5
This book is written from the perspective of three different characters - Zelie, Amari, and Inan. Amari and Inan are siblings and are the children of the kingdom’s king (Saran) and queen. This book tells the story of Zelie’s quest to bring magic back to the kingdom. I found the character and scene development to be a bit weak. It’s not a book like Harry Potter where I could completely imagine the environment.

Take 1 part Hunger Games, add 1 part Divergent, sprinkle a dash of magic, shake well, and dump out in West Africa.
This one is hard to rate because it IS good... it's engrossing and well written. BUT.... I've already read it several times in other YA dystopian trilogies. ...more
