I have never cried while reading a book, like I Did while reading this one!
It is the story of poor, uneducated women who have to endure the hardships of life...
The horrors and terrors that a lot of women have gone through during certain period in Afghanistan, the war torn country ,and the narration through the lives of two women Mariam and Laila..
Going through All kinds of Physical abuse of hitting, kicking and slapping ,brutal beating ,etc….

Great, moving story, told from the other side. So intricate, lovely characters, and heart breaking challenges of what war and violence does to people. I'm glad he writes the books he does.

I really don't know where to begin with this one. It's the first book I've ever read taking place in Afghanistan and the perspective was very enlightening. I was afraid when the stories of the women began to intertwine that it was going to just be a Lifetime drama of battered women who rise above, but while it had that element to it, that's not what it was about. It's about a land and culture very different from my own, but with its own unique beauty, cultural heritage and history. The plight of

this is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed it. the author gives you a picture of what life is like for Afgani women. This is a very heartbreaking book to read, but there is nothing exciting about living in a war torn country. This book made me appreciate even more my own freedom in the U.S.

Amazing, simply an amazing story. Beautifully written and heart-clenching through-out it's entirety. I stayed up all night reading just hoping that the lives of these strong female leads would get better. "It has to get better" I'd tell myself, but then secretly worried I wouldn't get my American happily ever-after ending that I'm accustomed to. I literally want to buy this book in bulk and hand it out to people who complain about the minutest things in their reasonably easy lives. Everyone shou

After immensely enjoying The Kite Runner a few years, I intended to read everything else Khaled Hosseini had written but I never quite got around to it. This book was so well done - of course I expected no less, but it was so different from The Kite Runner too and it felt much more conflicted and heart-wrenching. I loved this and all of the emotions that it stirred. So well written and so intense and such a harsh look into this period of time.
