What Members Thought

Reading this for another time as an adult was such a treat. I have always loved this book and I will always love this novel. There is just something about Charlie's letters that captures my heart. From his journey through friendship to love to family discord to mental health and his struggles, this novel is a pure sucker-punch in the reality of what goes in a typical teen's mind. This book is acclaimed for a reason and it holds a special place in my heart.

There is always danger in reading a book about which you've heard a lot. Not if people say it's just okay, I guess, but if they tell you it was amazing and completely changed their lives...BEWARE. My reason for saying this is that I liked this book, but it didn't change my life. There are a lot of important issues that Chbosky brings into play with his characters, and he represents certain high school experiences very well. This book was beautiful. I'd heard for years that I should read it and it just stayed packed away on my list of books, getting skipped over for non-YA while I was being a pretentious snob. Then I realized that there are earth-moving YA books and you are still allowed to read them when you become an adult, crazy right?
Anyway, this book is beautiful. It reminds you of the messiness of life and doesn't try and wrap it up in shiny paper and make it all ok, but let's you wallow in the shared misery ...more

This book took a little bit of time to read because it is very depressing. The main character Charlie writes the book in letters. He deals with a lot of major issues including drugs, alcohol, rape, suicide, sexuality and so much more. This book is for mature audiences. When finished I debated between 3 and 4 stars and decided to give it 4 stars. The other major issue I had about this book is the cover. From a far the image to the right looks like a bat to me upside down and gave me the creeps th

One of the narrators on the podcast Books on the Nightstand, Ann, recommended the audio version of this book, so I went for it. It had been on my TBR pile for such a long time, so when it came up as a Scribd.com Selects for March, I listened to it in one afternoon. The story went in a way different direction than what I had always imagined the book to be about.
