This book was fantastic! It is pretty long, but I never got bored. This book made me cry, smile, laugh and have so many emotions. That is something that we all wish when reading and this book achieved it.
"Alaska, 1974.
Unpredictable. Unforgiving. Untamed.
For a family in crisis, the ultimate test of survival.

I was so excited to get on the list at my library early and be able to read The Great Alone soon after it was published. I really loved The Nightingale and was looking forward to another story of such magnitude.
I seem to be in the minority with the reviews, but this book missed it for me. I give Kristin credit for taking such a different storyline from The Nightingale. Many times authors hit it big with a certain kind of story and then just continue along the same lines, which sometimes works, ...more

I haven't sobbed at a book like I sobbed at this book for years. Hannah is the master of writing about perseverance through struggle and she does it in a way where you can't help but be moved. I really don't even see the comparison-other than maybe colors on the cover. I also didn't think I'd be that interested in a story set in Alaska. It was fascinati

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
Brief Summary: When her father inherits a valuable piece of land, thirteen year old Leni moves with her parents to the Alaskan Wild in 1974. But Ernt Albright is a POW from Vietnam who suffers from PTSD and the family is up against the challenge of being pioneers in the Alaskan wilderness. I am a huge fan of this author and could not wait to read her follow-up to the blockbuster The Nightengale.
Highlights: The adventure of the Alaskan wilderness hands downs! I a ...more
