It started out really good. what's in the name? Something I grew up dealing with. People mispronouncing my name and asking myself and my family why I had the one unusual name of every single member of my family. Great read but the end was not what I had in mind. I don't like to reveal too much of the plot but I like to share how the book relates to me in my life. I enjoyed it while reading it, but somehow I like it more & more as time passes since I've read it. Doesn't hurt that Mira Nair's version is now in theatres. Can't wait.

One part that really resonated with me, gave me insight into how it must be to live in a different country, raise children that are first generation American born, and so much more:

"... being a foreigner ... is a sort of lifelong pregnancy ... an ongoing responsibility, a parenthesis in what had been an ordinary life."
