I would rate this book 4.5 stars, because at the end it seemed really fictional. But the rest was really enjoyable. I lived in Japan for the summer of 2014 and my best friend there was named Nao, just like the main character in this book. This book has a central plot involving a young Japanese girl, who spend her early years in America during the Dot.com bubble, but then returned with her family to Japan. It shows the isolation this produces on this girl, but also to her family, both in Japan and as her American friends desert her. I am a great admirer generally of the Japanese culture, but the story shows the ugly side of modern Japan.
