This is a book everyone should read. What is it like to grow up in a ghetto, hearing gunshots on a regular basis and watching friends/ loved ones get killed? Anyone who can stand back and judge them before understanding them needs to learn more. This book is an eye opener about what it is like and what the judgments do to the people who are only doing the best they can.
Excellent book and very good characters. It is very real with how people are.

I wanted to like this book. I wanted to LOVE this book. I agree with this book on so many levels, but I did not love this book. Disclaimer: it has NOTHING to do with message of the book. I found the writing boring. I could not get into. I found myself having to force myself to read this book, unlike Dear Martin, that I devoured. I give the message five stars, but the writing was seriously a two at best for me. So I averaged them as best I could. Maybe because it was her first novel, maybe her wr
