I have spent the last day and a half trying to come up with the words that will adequately express my feelings about this book. For now, all I can say is that this is the most important book I have read in a LONG time. I feel that anyone and everyone who can get a copy of this book should read it.

I found myself laughing (mainly at Maverick....that dude is funny with his one liners), crying at multiple places, cheering for Starr and hating on a couple certain people. All in all, I can definitely

I just finished this audiobook and I want to give it 5 stars. Angie Thomas gives us a character who is a witness to the "Black Lives Matter" movement and to what it feels to be a black young person feeling injustice against her people. Starr is a teen girl who attends a private school but who lives in a poorer "black" neighborhood. She flip flops between both worlds trying to reconcile her heritage and the person society wants her to be. When her childhood friend is murdered by a police officer, ...more

This is a book everyone should read. What is it like to grow up in a ghetto, hearing gunshots on a regular basis and watching friends/ loved ones get killed? Anyone who can stand back and judge them before understanding them needs to learn more. This book is an eye opener about what it is like and what the judgments do to the people who are only doing the best they can.

Excellent book and very good characters. It is very real with how people are.

This is a young adult / teen book written from the perspective of an African American teen girl who witnesses a crime against one of her friends and her entry into the world of activism and all the social nuances of it.

The writing isn't all that good. It's not bad, but it is pretty simple and straightforward. It relies on the emotions it conveys. And the emotions are very strong in this book. ...more

I knew I would like this book. I didn't know I would love it, or that it'd become one of my favorites.

Only the second book this year that I've given a five star rating to, and it is well deserved.

THUG covers so many topics, all of which are given an adequate amount of attention, for a book that's not even 500 pages. And that just illustrates what a great writer Angie Thomas is.

This book is so heartbreaking, and I think the intensity of that heartbreak has a lot to do with the fact that it depict

This book is a heartbreakingly honest story of current events in America. This should be required reading for everyone.

I really enjoyed this book. It made me open my eyes about our society the good and bad. This book was well written about current events. It was relatable. Of course some parts were sad and others made me laugh. The bravery, the family, the community standing and coming together to help each other in a time of need.
I really hope Angie Thomas continues to write.

I wanted to like this book. I wanted to LOVE this book. I agree with this book on so many levels, but I did not love this book. Disclaimer: it has NOTHING to do with message of the book. I found the writing boring. I could not get into. I found myself having to force myself to read this book, unlike Dear Martin, that I devoured. I give the message five stars, but the writing was seriously a two at best for me. So I averaged them as best I could. Maybe because it was her first novel, maybe her wr ...more
