I read this book for a book club on books amino and also for my 2017 around the year in 52 books challenge #8 Read a book written by a person of color. I was hoping to like this book more than I did but I think this book is just over hyped. The writing style was hard to get into. The slang she used in dialog was difficult to read because I wanted to correct her grammar every time the characters spoke. This book was amazing on audio and I couldn't stop listening to it. It opened my eyes to a very realistic situation and the impact that it could have on so many people. The characters were wonderful in this book and the story was so well told. Everyone needs to read this book.
