I don't really think I have anything new to add to all the glowing reviews about this book.
Let me just say that I absolutely LOVED the way the author tackled such a complex issue and managed to make it a relatable story for those of us who can't even begin to imagine what it must've been like for Starr to grow up the way she did, to experience the things she did. I read this book for a book club on books amino and also for my 2017 around the year in 52 books challenge #8 Read a book written by a person of color. I was hoping to like this book more than I did but I think this book is just over hyped. The writing style was hard to get into. The slang she used in dialog was difficult to read because I wanted to correct her grammar every time the characters spoke.
