***THIS BOOK IS IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE GOODREADS CHOICE AWARDS! HELP VOTE IT THROUGH!***

My review of this astoundingly accomplished, trenchantly imagined, and tendentiously told tale will appear during Booksgiving. Expendable Mudge Muses Aloud or, as I call it, my blog, will offer a bookish gift-giving guide to the perplexed giver from 24 November to 24 December.

This book would make a good discussion book for club book. It touches on the criminal justice system and the black community.

Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.
