What Members Thought

This book is over 500 pages long and took me almost a month to finish it. it was not an easy read. The beginning chapters were wonderful as they introduced us to 12 or so main characters and gave an understanding to their backgrounds. Then there was a chapter which went on for 200 pages about environmental activism. Then the later chapters let us know the characters stories as they aged. I had no context reading this, outside of a strong recommendation from a friend in AUS. It took me awhile to enjoy the reading, the first half felt slow, meandering. Halfway through I found a new character more engaging personally and some of the individual stories became woven together in a new way while made the reading then faster and easier.

A great start with a variety of characters and stories, eventually merging together. I've spent my life loving trees and this book captured my soul. I'm inspired and want to spend my next vacation in a forest. I'm envious of the bold characters. I'm enchanted by the poetry and design of the plot. Life changing novel.

Il tema è nobile e le storie di alcuni personaggi sono particolarmente coinvolgenti, ma spesso sembra che l'autore si sforzi a tutti i costi di sembrare ispirato e poetico, a scapito del racconto stesso. La traduzione mi sembra pessima: sicuramente sarebbe stato utile il contributo di qualcuno che effettivamente conosce gli alberi, per evitare scivoloni o scelte lessicali opinabili e sgradevoli (come "legno ferro" a traduzione di "ironwood").
