This was an engrossing book... hard to put down once you started reading it... I flipped through it at the store, put it back on its shelf telling myself I didn't need to read this now...since I am currently reading three other books...but I kept thinking on it and had to come back and get it the next day and I just kept reading it... I can't wait to read the next books in the series... I'm sure that the movie version with Tim Burton involved will surely live up to expectation... ...more

I enjoyed the beginning of the book. It was slow, creepy and mysterious. Unfortunately, after finding the house and uncovering the mystery, the book loses most of its atmosphere. The characters aren’t that interesting (aside from their peculiarities), and the story meanders until it’s suddenly time for the climax and subsequent cliffhanger. The pictures are cool, but the links between them and the text do get quite tenuous or tangential sometimes.

This was an amazing book! I can’t wait to get to the second book. However I didn’t like that the writing made the chapters seem like they were going to end, only to continue on the next page. It was very confusing. I loved the characters, and loved the plot. The photographs were very creative and helped make the story more memorable. Overall 4.5/5!
