This book picks up roughly where No 4 ended. Elora, Ram & baby Helm, have moved back into Jefferson Unit. They hope that this will keep Elora safe, from another attack, from the Raglenclan.

Once again Victoria has written a book that keeps you turning pages because you can't wait to find out what happens. I love the little references that remind us that this isn't the same dimension in which the story takes place. Glen's story is fleshed out more and I think we will hear more about him in future books as his tale isn't finished. Elora once again has to battle Stagnare dimension but with Helm at risk as well. This is the 5th book in the Order of the Black Swan. Please forgive me for repeating that the books need to be read in order (MY FAMILIAR STRANGER, THE WITCH'S DREAM, A SUMMONER'S TALE, MOONLIGHT). I say this because I love these books and that is the way to fully appreciate the scope of this series.

I say this because I love these books and that is the way to fully appreciate the scope of this series.

Gathering Storm is amazing. So much of it I didn't see coming because I was so caught up in the story. The action sequences were beyond exciting. To be honest, when I come to most fight/battle scenes in books, my mind seems to wander a bit and I tend to skim through them. In this book, my attention was totally captured. I was edge of my seat, glued to the page, laughing at some parts, and holding my breath at others.

There is a lot of action as well as love (all different kinds) in this book. But I think what really affected me the most was the theme concerning the true essence of person. Why do some rise to a situation and become heroes and others take a different path? What happens when just one person recognizes the potential of another individual and helps nourish that potential? What happens when that potential is ignored? Victoria Danann has created such complex characters and has presented such deep themes that this question isn't as black and white as it seems. Some are given chances and seize the opportunity to become the best they could be. Others waste or abuse the opportunities they are given. Some appear to be slackers but when they are tested, they find their strength and courage. Some slackers slink away. There are no easy answers. A math instructor can become a warrior, a warrior can be totally useless in a crisis. Our actions have far reaching consequences and bravery is expressed in many forms- a scientist who has had enough, a bar owner who trusts a stranger, an angel who comes to care for his assignment, a wastrel who sees himself clearly for the first time. But don't worry. This is not presented as a dry philosophical thesis. The book is exciting, entertaining, and moving.

After finishing the story, I wondered how I could come up with the words to express what I thought of this book and how it affected me. I had lots of tears. Some of them were sad tears, many were happy tears. These books are about friendship, loyalty, and love. I have come to care deeply for the characters and look forward to spending more time with them. The books are even better on a second (or third or fourth....) read. In fact if there is one thing that I find very sad it that I can't actually have a hot chocolate with Elora, an Irish whiskey with Ram, Storm, and Kay, hold Helm and kiss his little fingers, or play with Blackie.

All I can say is WOW!! This book was amazing!! Victoria Danann has done it yet again!! My favorite read of the year!! I laughed, cried and rejoiced with these characters. They feel like friends instead of fictional characters in a book. Can't wait for whatever Victoria writes next. Oh my gosh, I loved this book! I have read all of Victoria Danann's books, and one of the things that I really love about her books is that she is not predictable.....except that they are always funny, exciting, serious, silly, sensual, romantic, and occasionally jaw-dropping....all in every book. Oh my goodness! I can't think of adequate adjectives to describe this book! You will definitely NOT be disappointed! You're off and running as soon as you open this book. I loved getting back in touch with old friends and making new ones... you'll fall in love the new characters as much as you adore the old ones! I have been following The Black Swan series by Victoria Danann, this book Gathering Storm, the fifth in this series is an absolute fabulous read! I really loved it ! I was treated to another side of Storm, and fell in love with him all over again, and Rosie is such a fun add to the mix of characters in her series! I laughed, cried and really enjoyed this book!!I would definately recommend it!!

As a devoted reader of The Order of the Black Swan series I expected nothing but a fantastic read. Each of Victoria Dannan's books has been great. But I believe I laughed & cried more throughout this book than in any of the others. The twists & turns were unbelievable. So many things that I just didn't expect to happen, all the way to the end.

Anyone looking for a GREAT paranormal romance series MUST read this one. But I cannot stress enough that it MUST BE READ IN ORDER. Probably the best parano ...more

Once again, Victoria Danann has done it again, I love this fifth installment of the series, and pick up where we left on the 4th book, and again was fun to read, have the moments to laugh and sexy times too, like I said was totally in love with the story.

Ms. Danann has done it again. I wondered about the title "Gathering Storm" and after reading the book the title is perfect. I have always had a sweet spot for Storm and the "Storm treat" that Ms. Danann graciously provided is so AWESOME.

After being a go-to-guy for navigating problems, wonder boy Glen finally finds a place with The Order that he belongs. I also loved his love interest!! Wish I could say more without spoiling anything.

WOW!!!! I wasn't expecting what this book has to offer. I loved it from the beginning to the end. I have to admit I did get a bit confused with a couple of the characters but all was cleared up very quickly. I love the trainee's...their courage, team work, all of it. This series by now has some great characters. They have developed into friends you want to visit with all the time to see how they are doing. The author keeps them all involved in the plot so you still have your favorites from the first books, but you also have new blood introduced in each one to keep things fresh.
A new author to add to my list of favorites.
