What Members Thought

Frivolous dispensation of death. Or, rather, a statistical one. The result is not exactly a postmortem society.
A book on a world with a decidedly idiotic population with an idiotic AI: instead of striving to build a greater civilization, they are busy guarding death. If one thinks in terms of economic resources, these people could have been motivated to do all kinds of things other than pursuits of pleasure and the tremors of expecting death.

I was blown away by everything I'd forgotten about this book, and everything that rereading it brought to the table.
I love Scythes Faraday, Curie, and Volta for making the decisions they do. They really create the story. I love how many layers of the Scythedom they represent. There's so many layers to corruption, and Neal Shusterman presents this really well. In a world that's supposed to be above corruption, there is still humanity.

I began reading Schyte with really high expectations, since its premise was quiet fascinating.
Did it meet this expectations? Partly.
The begging was a little slow, I felt like a lot of things happened too fast and because of that I got lost a few times.
It was at the beginning of the third part that I’ve really started to understand everything and when I finally saw the marvelous book everyone talks about.

Real rating: 3.5 stars.
It was an interesting book to read and honestly I really enjoyed the concept, the world and the characters as well. I found it hard to read at first and I really didn't expect for my opinion to change but not even halfway through and I was thoroughly invested in Citra and Rowan's apprenticeship.
The world: this concept of a dystopian almost too perfect life was certainly interesting to think about. Everything bad in the world is non-existent (sickness, corruption, racism et ...more

Is it weird that I sort of liked this?
I really don't understand how I feel about this book. Scythe was a creepy and grim book which was 100% out of my usual comfort zone in terms of reading. I read stuff that is cute and fluffy typically. Books like Simon vs the Homosapiens Agenda, Heartstopper and To All The Boys I Loved Before definitely are on my list. Scythe is the complete opposite it's all about death and reapers who practice the "art"of reaping. I read this novel as it is on the 2019 In ...more

I loved this. It was like a breath of fresh air since I've solely been reading fantasy. I loved the part where Citra chose her patron historic. Such a great jab. Definitely going to be reading the next book!
