I didn't expect to love this historical fiction book; it is book 1 of a trilogy and its topic is Josephine (Rose) Bonaparte. In this volume, Napoleon doesn't show up till the very end, and even with very limited prior knowledge, or interest, I was riveted to every page of this novel. The author is known for her impeccable research, and there are just the right amt of footnotes with historical fact.
