This is one of my all time favorite books! Milada lives in the Czech village of Lidice. She is taken from her home and put in a Lebensborn camp, where she is eventually adopted by a German family. The whole time, she holds onto hope that her family is coming to get her, and she keeps a pin that her grandmother gave her. For me, it is hard to describe in words how good this book is.
