I started out reading it, but then picked up the audio book. I was enjoying it the first way, but am glad I started over on audio with this full cast for the roles in this book.

This was a heartbreakingly, beautiful and sad tale of the rise and eventual fall of Daisy Jones & The Six.

It was like I was listening to Unsung or Behind the Music or some other show that gives you info about the celebrities (singers or otherwise) that you've come to know and love.

As the title indicates, this novel revolves around Daisy Jones and the band, The Six, that she joins during the 1970s. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll encompass the era during which they rose to success and was what subsequently led to the group's eventual end.

Daisy is a beautiful woman in L.A. who just wants to be a singer and songwriter. When she first starts out, she is frustrated because the music producers won't give her songs a chance. Daisy is a beautiful woman in L.A. who just wants to be a singer and songwriter. When she first starts out, she is frustrated because the music producers won't give her songs a chance. But she keeps singing and is eventually paired with a rock band, The Six, led by Billy Dunne, and together Billy and Daisy create magic, both with their songwriting and their singing. But understandably so, having seven people in a group is bound to lead to conflict. Everyone has his or her own ideas about the music, two of the bandmates start a sexual relationship, and Daisy and Billy have incredible chemistry, which would be great if Billy wasn't married with three kids.

The Good
While I liked reading the entire book, it wasn't until the ending that I began to love it. We find out that the "author" doing the interview is Billy's oldest daughter, Julia, and throughout the interview and writing process, Billy's wife, Camilla, passes away. Camilla was my favorite character throughout because she fought so hard for her family, but not in a self-sacrificing way, but because she wanted a life with Billy and their children. And in doing so, she made Billy a better and stronger man. But the very end was the best: she told her children to give Billy Daisy's phone number. Camilla's time with him was done so she was hoping that Billy could be happy again with Daisy. I loved this.

The Bad

Another Note
I normally don't like books that are told through a diary-style of writing, so I wasn't sure how I was going to like this book since the narrative is done almost entirely through an interview-style dialogue. However, the fact that it didn't take away at all from the story and that Ms. Jenkins Reid did it so well speaks even more toward her talent as an author.

Characters and plot get a 9 out of 10 and the book gets a grade of an A.

“When you find that rare person who really knows who you are and they still don’t love you” This line broke my heart! This story was told in such an intriguing way. I have held off since I had heard it was done in a documentary style which is not my cup of tea but I should have known better. I have loved everything Taylor Jenkins Reid has wrote and this one’s no exception. The audiobook was so unique with a full cast.
