I've read all of Joanna Wylde's Reapers books so far, and I have to say this is my least favourite of the series. This book tells the story of Painter and Melanie - detailing how they met and kept in touch while Painter was in prison, and what happens when he gets out.

Although I don't have anything against the main characters in this story, I just didn't feel myself buying their relationship as much as I have the others in this series. Perhaps it's because the timeline jumped around a little, or ...more

Melanie recognizes that Painter is not the ideal candidate for a fairy tale relationship, but she's drawn to his sexy ways, his quiet/brooding demeanor and the tender side he only shares with her. She loves him and would love nothing more than to make a life with him. But can she forgive his mistakes and accept him and his world, unconditionally?

As a follower of the series, I was curious to read Painter and Mel's story. I found Painter to be an intriguing character with a huge sense of loyalty and a protective streak a mile wide. I admired his determination to keep his distance from Melanie in the beginning and the way he owned up to his mistakes--whichever times Melanie saw it fit for him to do. I did have to fight the urge to throttle him quite a few times, but ultimately I understood where he was coming from and admired his loyalty to his club and his family.

Melanie? Well, she frustrated me to no end. Yes. No. Maybe. Her whiplash inducing thought process had me growling at her through my tablet (a first for me!). However, I understood her concerns so I gave her the benefit of the doubt and hoped she would eventually go back to 'seeing' him instead of letting herself be led by past hurts.

Thankfully, it all worked out as expected and I enjoyed the process thoroughly. I enjoyed how the author went about telling their story, especially since she went the extra mile in allowing the reader to experience their journey every step of the way. Of course, Painter and Mel's chemistry was easily palpable and explored fully at every encounter. There's no doubt Joanna Wylde knows how to bring the heat. These two were explosive for sure and their interactions outside the 'bedroom' (really, was there a bedroom?!) were just as explosive. Tempers flaring, emotions running rampant. Yes, excellent reading material!

This is the fifth book in the series and can be read as a stand alone. However, I would recommend the reader pick up Reaper's Stand. This is where Painter and Mel meet and tells of the event that lands Painter in jail the first time. It's not necessary, but it did help me to understand Melanie better. But that's me--a proven series maniac.

All in all, Reaper's Fall was a fantastic read that induced quite a few temper tantrums on my part. That's what I call a win-win. An amazing story that got a reaction out of me. ;-)

I received an arc for an honest review. I absolutely love Joanna Wylde writing. Joanna books always make me want more. Painter and Mel has a complicated relationship. Mel falls in love with Painter but he's in prison. Mel doesn't understand the club life and not a fan of it. Love conquers all.
