Haddie Montgomery and Beckett Daniels met when their best friends Colton and Rylee started a tumultuous relationship, in the first three of the Driven series. They've stayed away from each other thinking that it wouldn't be good for the best friends to start something that ends badly, when they wouldn't be able to really walk away from each other being around their friends. Haddie Montgomery and Beckett Daniels met when their best friends Colton and Rylee started a tumultuous relationship, in the first three of the Driven series. They've stayed away from each other thinking that it wouldn't be good for the best friends to start something that ends badly, when they wouldn't be able to really walk away from each other being around their friends. But at Colton and Rylee's weeding, Haddie with a heavy heart from a loss in her family, propositions Beckett. She's desperate to feel to escape. But the problem with that is, she does feel... more than she wanted to for Beckett and he the same. Which starts a push/pull of starts and stops between them. Beckett doesn't know what's holding Haddie back, but is determined to find out. Haddie is martyring herself by staying away from Beckett and hiding what's happening to her from both he and her best friend, Rylee. She believes that its best to keep them from feeling the hurt and hopelessness she felt from her loss.

But when Beckett finds out what's happening, he steps up and makes her realize that the fight isn't her's alone and that he's in it for the long haul.

Although the premise of this story has very personal meaning to me, I didn't love it. I felt that there was a lot of internal dialogue, making the story not really move forward for me with any specific definition of time. I couldn't tell if it was two weeks or five months. When I read, it's like movement in my head like a tv show or film. But there was very little. It felt like a therapy session on a psychiatrists couch.

Now saying that, I respect all writers for putting themselves out there with their writing. And know that's exactly what it is to write and publish, either through a publisher or independently... Putting "themselves" out there. I never want my opinion to discourage anyone from reading an authors work. This is just my opinion.

So why give it as many stars as I did? Well, because I do believe that the emotional turmoil Haddie went through was put on the page. That her decisions were real and made sense for someone going through what they had in the past and what they were going through at the time. I could see why she made the decisions she did. I understood it, not agreeing with it, because I do believe that people need support, positive thinking and love from everyone in their lives to get through hard times, but I got what the impetus for her decisions were.

Since the Driven series has been about people in the racing scene for the past four books, I am curious as to where the author will take this and who the new characters are, as I don't remember any of their names from the previous installments. If they aren't in the racing scene, shouldn't it be a spinoff series with a new name? I'm just saying... Meet Miss Opinionated! ;D ...more

(ARC) This book hit home way too much for me on both of the plot points the heroine is struggling with ( I note the main one that is a bit of a plot surprise at the end of my review at Bc.)
