The writing in this book was phenomenal. Beautiful turns of phrases. Such interesting and archaic terms used at times that I almost feel I am living in this London. Absolutely marvelous descriptions of birds, creatures, places, the gross snails and wetness everywhere. Oh it is just amazing how well crafted this novel is. So often I did not know what something was and a google does not help (a woman referred to as a "Judy" and it inspires horror?).

Shelves: genre-mystery
Things in Jars has a unique and highly entertaining style - highly atmospheric, hilarious but also a little bit creepy. This book has a lot of fun with the gothic genre and also enjoys turning some of the social conventions of 19th century London on their head.
