I really enjoyed this book. I went into it, not expecting to like it much as it was different from my normal style and I haven't really found a good 'genie' book. But this wormed its way past all my pre conceived ideas and blew me away.
The characters start of pretty one dimensional but get more and more interesting and complicated as the book goes along. There are some twists that I saw coming and some that I didn't. I will make sure that I pick up the next book soon.

This story tended to drag for me, guessing I'm not the intended audience. The main idea was good, and the wriying decent, but the main character was not very engaging and found myself wanting to skip forward to get it over with. ...more

I really enjoyed the setting of this book. It’s absolutely refreshing to read a fantasy derived from a non Western European medieval type setting. The book has a bit of a love triangle and some messy politics that get kind of muddled. It’s definitely a first novel.
