This was unfortunately not as good as the original, though it did finally get good in the last 30 pages or so. Lirael was not the most exciting POV character to follow, and this was probably the first time I have been bored while exploring a mysterious library (quite possibly my favourite trope!). Thankfully Sam’s POV was more action packed, and I look forward to seeing the two of them team up in Abhorsen (after the ridiculous number of pages it took for them to find each other).
