This book surprised me. I didn't know much about this series, nor the author, before starting it; I've only read passing comparisons to Dumas' "The Three Musketeers." The comparison is accurate, as the book revolves around three swashbuckling heroes that try and uphold The King's Law, even though their King is dead, and most of the world blames them for it. This series was a complete surprise. I had never heard of the author or the series before stumbling on the audiobook. It will likely rank in my top 10 list for being thoroughly entertaining. Having read and listened to hundreds of fantasy, Sci Fi and Swords and Sandals novels it is a rare treat when I can be carried away by a story and a group of characters. This was a rare find indeed.

Simply one of the greatest fantasy debuts I've ever read. Propulsive, delightful, funny and heartwrenching. Ticks all the damn boxes.
