dudebro fun™, will continue!

I really enjoyed this book. This was just a really fun Musketeers style adventure. Like the Musketeers with a little magic thrown in.
The King is dead. The Greatcoats are disbanded, but each one has still been given a final task by the King before his death. In this series we follow three high ranking greatcoats and best friends Falcio, Brasti, and Kest with the story being told from Falcio's perspective. A blast to read. Exciting and moving.
---Fully R rated, for innuendo and sex, violence including tons of killing (in warlike skirmishes) onscreen torture and offscreen rape, and language.---
It's interesting that, despite containing a notable amount of suffering, soul-searching, relationships, sacrifices, and otherwise moving scenes and moments that do not pull punches, the overall book felt exciting, funny, and fun.

I adored this book. I can't wait for the continuation of the series and I have heartily recommended it to all of my friends.
So much of fantasy either falls on the fluffy side of YA or goes full-on Grimdark. This walks the rapier-thin line between them both and does so masterfully.
The story is fast-paced and the world-building is detailed enough to be informative but not so detailed as to feel like a sourcebook for an RPG as some other books in the genre seem to be.

Loved this! The pacing, the humor, the honor. All combined to a fast paced fun romp. A few issues dropped it from a 5 star, but overall devoured this book and can't wait to continue the series.
