Vampire Wake (Kiera Hudson Series One, #2) in Tim O'Rourke Fans

This was quite an amazing book. The atmosphere Rourke creates just sucks you in and doesn't relinquish you. there were a few times I actually threw my Kindle from being surprised.

Hallowed Manor: I suspected most of what was going on in the house, there were a couple things that surprised me, and then slightly annoyed me, because I like it when an author allows for you to try to solve a mystery vs. making it impossible for you to put 2 and 2 together. The house was just fantastically sinister and This was quite an amazing book. The house was just fantastically sinister and often had my hairs stand up in fear of what might be lurking in the dark.

Plot: Was still really good, the problem of Rourke is that he reveals too much too soon, and then hides information that should have been more prevalent to us a lot sooner. Things that I had figured out within the first few chapters took the heroine to the end and then had to be spelled out for her. These things, however annoying, didn't detract from the book and it's writing.

Characters:

Kiera: As usual she's a really strong leading lady, and the times I would have been curling up in a ball and crying, she's shrugging off the pending doom and getting on with it. She's really a relatable and even likable character.

Luke: Got to love good boy Luke. There for a bit when Kiera reunited with him, he got kind of dark and bit...bitter almost? It was kind of a turn on, and then, he goes back to a loveable good boy. *sigh*

Murphey: not a whole lot to say here. I really wish Rourke would do a much better painting of him as the main character he's supposed to be instead of more like a supporting character. He's likeable, maybe even loveable, and given half a chance I think he'd tug hard at my heartstrings but Rourke has yet to really accomplish that.

Potter: Best for last. I'm madly in love with Potter. From the moment him and Kiera eyed one another in the Ragged Cove, I've only ever wanted to jump him. Potter is the one character other than Kiera that stands out in bold colors instead of folding into the dark of Rourke's world. Every bit of Potter's sarcastic nature, his anger, his passion, his sense of justice, I just love. He's the one I find myself searching for in the pages and he's the one that I'm silently pleading with Kiera to even give him half a chance because I just KNOW she's misunderstanding him.

Time line: 3-4 days ish again. Not very long, but it keeps the story moving at a fast pace which kept me moving and interested.

Reason for my review: I gave it 5 stars because even though it isn't flawless, the flaws made it better in my opinion then detracted from it. I've read more popular books that I haven't even liked half as much as this. It's an interesting world that keeps slowly evolving and I find myself begging for more rather than going "well that's over. what now?" I highly recommend these books to anyone looking for a good horror/mystery novel with a touch of romance hitching along for the ride. ...more
