Vampire Wake (Kiera Hudson Series One, #2) in Tim O'Rourke Fans

Vampire Wake is a brilliant book. With Keira back at Havensfield she is trying to come to terms with what happened at The Ragged Cove and get her life back on track. However, this is not as simple as it sounds! To begin with, there are not many people who believe her story and, therefore, her mind is occupied with trying to find any information she can on the whereabouts of her beloved mother and her Vampyrus friends: Luke, Murphy and Potter.

She is then asked to 'babysit' Lady Hunt's sixteen yea Vampire Wake is a brilliant book. With Keira back at Havensfield she is trying to come to terms with what happened at The Ragged Cove and get her life back on track. However, this is not as simple as it sounds! To begin with, there are not many people who believe her story and, therefore, her mind is occupied with trying to find any information she can on the whereabouts of her beloved mother and her Vampyrus friends: Luke, Murphy and Potter.

She is then asked to 'babysit' Lady Hunt's sixteen year old daughter, Kayla, which Keira is reluctant to do at first but her thirst for work exceeds this reluctancy. Hence, life has not completely returned to normal for Keira but has provided her with something different to occcupy her time with.

Keira's character is very alert and she is able to piece a puzzle/mystery together with her ability to 'see' details and process them very quickly. And it is this, coupled with her drive, determination and curiosity that makes Keira a really likeable character.

I have to say, after reading the first two novels of this series, that the character Potter is possibly my favourite. I love that his dark, impolite side can swiftly turn into cheekiness and that there is something more about him underneath his harshness. Although it is well hidden for the most part, he does appear to have a soft side.

I do feel that Vampire Wake is largely the set-up for book three, Vampire Hunt. There are more revelations in this second novel but after the build up and some brilliant action scenes the reader is left desperate to begin the third book, knowing that plenty more adventure and action scenes are on the way.

Again, there is a great connection to the readers' reality as Tim O'Rourke writes with great imagination and knowledge of modern day Britain. For example, with current music being played on Keira's iPod this aids the reader to connect with the characters of the book. It allows the story to have a hint of realism and therefore, makes it more believable.

I think, if I were to be an author, one of the hardest things to do would be to write a sequel. I mean, here you write this fantastic book that people are loving and raving about and recommending to their friends, your doing interviews on reviewer's blogs, and your fans are telling you how they can't wait for you to write the next book. Ummm, no pressure right? Sit back and think about it...I would probably be sitting in front of my laptop stumped as to how I can go above and beyond, keeping in I think, if I were to be an author, one of the hardest things to do would be to write a sequel. I mean, here you write this fantastic book that people are loving and raving about and recommending to their friends, your doing interviews on reviewer's blogs, and your fans are telling you how they can't wait for you to write the next book. Ummm, no pressure right? Sit back and think about it...I would probably be sitting in front of my laptop stumped as to how I can go above and beyond, keeping in line with the main characters, plot line, bringing in some newbies, and a new setting but still keeping my readers attention, and giving them something new and something comfortable (like your favorite pair of jeans, you know, they just "fit") at the same time. Well guess what folks, Tim has done just that. Page one gripped me right back into Kiera's life. After the events at The Ragged Cove, she is now off the Force and meeting a therapist weekly to see if she is mentally stable to return to duty. Why wouldn't she be? She only witnessed something no human was ever suppose to see. With her life a complete mess, she is obsessing with any clue to where her friends Luke, Potter and Murphy could be and also any signs that the evil vampyrus have returned.

Enter the mysterious Lady Hunt, whose husband has disappeared, who has come calling to Keira's apartment to "hire" her to come to her manor and keep watch over her problem-child teenage daughter Kayla. Everyone has a secret and everyone has their own agenda, from the prim and proper housekeeper to the freaky looking gatekeeper, to trouble-follows-me-everywhere Kayla. Too many questions are filling Kiera's head, where has Kayla's mother run off to, why did her father just disappear, where are her friends, why does she keep getting these blinding visions and why does her eye bleed after each one, and what is up with the dark, under contruction, forbidden wing at the manor?

From the time I write this, it has been four days since I finished Vampire Wake and I am still going through it in my head. Full of moments of shock, laughter, and breath taking surprise. The new characters introduced fit in perfectly to the story line and I was glad to see some of the characters from book one return. Questions from Vampire Shift are answered and things start making sense. The story will continue into book three, which will hopefully be out by the end of the year and I cannot wait to see what happens next! Once again, well done Tim! ...more

After reading the first book in the Kiera Hudson series, Vampire Shift, I could not wait to pick up Vampire Wake! While the first book didn't end with a very big cliff hanger, I wanted to see what this book would bring to the table after I enjoyed the first one so much.

Vampire Wake begins a few months after Keira left The Ragged Cove and she is on temporary leave from the police force because of her crazy stories of vampire bats living in The Ragged Cove. Her therapist seems to think she’s crazy and Kiera herself is starting to believe her. While everyday she pours over every major newspaper looking for clues as to where Luke and her old comrades may have gone, Kiera’s special gift of sight begins to become more pronounced until they seem to be full blown visions. Just when her life seems to be going nowhere and fast, Kiera gets an offer to stay in a manor a few hours away to babysit a rich woman’s young daughter who seems to be mixed up with the wrong kind of people. Kiera has no idea that accepting this request will lead to destruction, danger and some terrifying realizations about herself and her future.

This book was very different from the first installment of the Keira Hudson series. As we got to know Kiera in the first book, we see a more vulnerable side to her in the second. She’s confused about what happened to her at The Ragged Cove and completely heart broken. She finally found someone that she fell for and then they disappeared, without a trace. That’s not to say that Kiera was whiney and dramatic, she went about in true “Kiera fashion” and started solving crimes around town, trying to make sense of her life logically. Kiera is still one of my favorite female protagonists of all time. In this book you’ll get to see the same sarcastic and powerful Kiera that you loved in Vampire Shift. One of my favorite things about her is her ability of sight and how she uses it in an almost sarcastic way. Her comic relief in this slightly intense book was very refreshing.

In this book, we meet a few new characters and reunite with some of the old.We also see a love triangle begin to develop. Don't worry, I won't tell you who's with who, but I'm getting pretty excited. It seems that authors these days just love to torture us, trying to make us choose sides! While I'm not sure who's side I'm on just yet in the Kiera Hudson series, I hope that by book three, I will have a team to stand behind.

While I did really enjoy this book, I felt like this may have been kind of a filler , just setting up more of the plot for the third, fourth and fifth installments of the Kiera Hudson series.,, which I'm completely fine with as I can't wait to see what happens in book three!

I am absolutely loving this series. The first book was awesome so of course I couldn't wait to read Vampire Hunt. It left me in agony having to wait for the third book Vampire Hunt! I admire Tim O'Rourke's uniqueness and creativity. His ability to tell the story and keep you on your toes is superb! Love Love Love him!! I finished the first 2 books in just a couple of days because I just couldn't put them away. Halloween can't come soon enough for the next installment. I will be reading this seri ...more

As a lover & addict of vampire stories I thought I had seen it all...... boy was I wrong. Its always refreshing to see someone breathe new life into a genre & flip it on its back. This is one of those series. Loved everything about it & the sequel was even better than the first one. Im actually finding myself falling for Potter LOL Im hoping he gets some more lovin in the next book, LOVE this series!!!!

I read this book within hours.I couldn't put it down...I loved it! I'm not sure I liked the Kiera/Luke/Potter thing??I really like Luke and don't want to see him hurt.I guess I didn't see that coming?? I love the new guy Isidor.I can't wait to see what happens next!!! ...more

I read this book when it came out in 2011 but didn't realise I hadn't done a review. After Kiera flees from the Ragged Cove she finds herself looking after Lady Hunt's daughter, where we first meet Kayla. Where Kiera still has feelings for Luke but Potter comes onto the scene and makes her look at him in a totally different way, Yay Love Potter!! I've read all the books in the series so far and they're still as fantastic as this one and leaves us well not patiently but waiting for the next one t ...more

Oh my oh my oh my.....Potterrrrrr!!

I seriously love this guy! I thought I was a fan of Luke but now I'm like sorry Luke who??

Second in the series, which continues on from book one. Kiera is off the force and is employed by Lady Hunt to look after her troubled daughter Kayla. Potter, Luke & Murphy seem to have disappeared and Kiera is obsessed with finding them. Little does she know what's coming...
