Perhaps it was because I read the entirety of this book in another country (namely Lithuania), and it was in a cafe that I've decided every city should have; but I was utterly drawn in. I loved this book, beginning to end, although, having taken such time developing the characters and story, I did feel that the end was a bit rushed.
I was concerned, at first, that the golem storyline was going to be much more twisted than it was, but this was just a delightful story of otherness and history.
I stand by my original assessment that it doesn't really fit on the Flume list, though it was nominated, and that's how it came to my attention. Teen readers with patience would be rewarded, ...more
