While I read this book...

1. I remembered Rach.
2. I expected to cry bucketload of tears.
3. I had high hopes for this, wanted it to be better than Looking for Alaska.
4. I saw it made me smile at times, like MCC, and Tulips, and that Orange hues... and poetic lines, METAPHORS... yeah, yeah all good.
5. I wasn't so happy in the end.
6. The book failed to move me.
7. *shrug* I dunno... just I liked it, to an extent, that's all.

2.5 stars, rounded off to 3.

There are so many things I could say about this book, and I'm sure they've already been said. So all I'll say is that the day I read this, I'd coincidentally had a sandwich and chips for breakfast. Pretty convinced the main character would be proud of me for that. ...more

I went through mixed emotions while reading this for the second time, courtesy for the movie premiere. I am very excited about the movie, and I strongly hope they followed the same path the book did, because otherwise would be a misuse of talent regarding John.

It's an intense book, and it's not a cancer book. Cancer is just a side-effect.

My review will contain spoilers, even though I don't use to write about the ending of the books I love.

I don't think Hazel was a hero type of character, she was just normal, trying to live her life besides having cancer. Which I think it's so bold and courageous, because I think I'd be just angry at everyone. Like literally, I'd hate everyone for not being sick, and everyone sick because I'm like them. Anyway. She was strong, incredibly strong.

Augustus Waters was... something else. He behaved like a true gentleman - something from very hard to find to impossible to find nowadays. You couldn't NOT love him, because his true essence was to be loved. The way he talked, the way he found a metaphor in like everything, the way he behaved... How he used his Wish to make Hazel happy... that's purely adorable.

One thing I particularly disliked about this was the kiss in Anne Frank's House. You can't do that, it's simply a historical place where someone hid during a very, very disturbing moment in the history of the humankind, and you can't just make someone kiss there. It's unacceptable for her memory, and for the other people there. It's just... wrong. I felt it was wrong, so I couldn't enjoy it at all. No one would clap. You don't kiss there.

Anyway, I might ramble all the way about how I loved this book, how much I dig John's writing style, considering I've read three of his books so far, or how much I respect John as a human being, but that won't help anyone decide why they should read this or anything.

I think you should give it a try, it's not perfect, as many say, but it's beautiful. And beautiful doesn't mean perfect. ...more

Well I just had a cry fest!! OMG the feels....the feels for this book! Hands down my favorite John Green Book! This was just so bitter sweet. I loved the relationship and friendship that Gus and Hazel had. They were on a whole different level then any of the other characters. Just adored this book!
