It was generally a good book. But I think it was highly overrated. People were literally going crazy after it, and the reviews were highly overwhelming. I do not deny the emotional stimulation of grief and depression after reading but I was really expecting some highly moving plot.
And yet I appreciate the depth of the characters, which is why I am giving it 3 stars

I hated Hazel and Gus.I hated the pretentious writing. But the book will stay with me for a really long time.

Have you ever read a book that you can tell from the beginning that it's going to haunt you for days after you finish it. Well this is one of them. This book makes you feel so many emotions. Happy, sad, laughing, confused as in WTH are they talking about, then you're crying. Dang I'm still leaking tears. Hazel Grace was wondering why Gus was staring at her when they first met but then he talked and she wanted to spend time with him and so it began. Two kids who didn't know how much time they had ...more

Hazel and Augustus are teens who are struggling with cancer and its "side effects." One of the side effects is Hazel not wanting to get too close to anyone because she sees herself as a "grenade" poised to hurt all in her path when she does succumb to her disease. She will eventually learn that everyone leaves scars even when you seek to minimize the damage you create. I will admit this made me cry. ...more

I really liked this book. I read it on a recent plane trip and needed tissues. Different than what I usually read. The author takes a different approach to this subject. The characters and the back story make an enjoyable read in such sad circumstances.

I was prepared, but this book still broke my heart.

This is the book I wanted Looking for Alaska to be. It had some similarities, the same story in some ways, but... so much more. I Love Hazel, I love Gus, two characters that might at any point slip off the page and live in our world (cancer free!!).

I was so engrossed I read it in one sitting. Love can make you weak in ways you never knew....and strong in ways you've never imagined (my own quote). That's what I got from this book. A well told tale. It's one that'll stick with me for a long long long time. Okay. Okay. (inside joke referring to the book).

This was a good book. It was sad as one would expect with a book about two terminal cancer patients. Yet it was entertaining and realistic.
