Wow! This was a touching and horrifying read. That this actually happened, at least in part, is just detestable and I'm saddened by all who were forced to endured it. I wasn't very aware of this side of WWII, so from an educational standpoint I enjoyed learning about it...I only wish this was complete fiction and no one had to have had it happen to them. I'm planning on watching the movie and hip it is as well done as this book. ...more

Wow! What a great story! We've all read the stories of Hitler and his evil reign, but this story brings to light Stalin's evil reign through wonderful, real characters - it's a sad, yet inspiring story of love, survival and strength. I enjoyed this book so much that I'm going to look for more books related to this time period. Highly recommend this book!!! ...more

This author does it again! If you liked Salt to the Sea, you’ll love this one! Follow Lithuanian citizens rounded up by the Soviets during WWII for Siberian labor camps. This is a piece of history that rarely gets told due to our tenuous “alliance” with Stalin during the war.
