I started reading The Color Purple after I read something by Alice Walker which was so close to home and so relatable it made me cry. And suffice to say, the book did not disappoint.
The Color Purple is the story of a black woman Celie, who is sexually abused by her father (read the book for more details on her relationship with the 'father') and is then married away with a man who's previously married with kids and has a 'girl' of his own. I saw this movie as a child. But reading this book at 35 years of age was quite different. Very great read!! It is a must read for everyone.
