Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi
This is a multigenerational story set in Ghana that spans over 300 years. Two half sisters, Effia and Esi are born in different villages. Effia is married off to an Englishman and lives in a castle, and Esi is imprisoned in the castle’s dungeon. Esi is sold into slavery and shipped to America where her children and grandchildren grow up as slaves. This story follows the descendants of these two sisters.

I don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said. This book is so good, so powerful, so moving! It's the look into African History that we need so desperately right now, and Yaa Gyasi does a great job of taking us on a journey of 250 years of slavery in Africa and America.

Just beautiful! There are so many layers to this book. It reads like numerous short stories that are so perfectly interlinked. I can’t stop thinking or talking about this book. I look forward to more from this author as her writing style is gorgeous.
