I went into this one a little blind and I’m so happy that I did. The writing was phenomenal - I could feel the emotion coming off the pages as I devoured and savored every word. I loved that the formatting of the text was a little different (no quotation marks and no chapters). It really grasped me and added an element of flow that often feels lacking in novels.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 I really enjoyed this book. It is a slow paced mystery revolving around two sisters, Mickey, a Philadelphia cop, and Kacey, a heroin addict. Someone is killing drug addicted women. Mickey becomes concerned as she hasn’t seen her sister in over a month.

Currently listening 🎧 to Long Bright River by Liz Moore.
Really enjoying this combination of thriller and police procedural. This is a beautifully written and powerful story about two sisters who are destroyed by addiction. The opioid crisis has its grips on the neighborhood as well as the country. The author delves into a compassionate picture of economic deprivation and the harsh realities of drugs and life on the streets. It also highlights police corruption. The story is complex and interest ...more

Thank you to Netgalley, Goodreads, and the publisher, Edelweiss, for providing me an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This book is set to publish in January 2020.
This was a tough book to read. Not in the sense of language but the topics of addition and police corruption. This story goes into multiple aspects of the opioid crisis from how it divides families to prostitution to get a fix to babies born to addicts and the withdrawal that they go through.

The Long Bright River had been sitting on my shelf for a couple of months now. I was so excited to read it but was overbooked by reading commitments until this month I made my own reading more of a priority. I was hooked the moment I read the first chapter. The writing style is excellent and I was immediately drawn to the characters and plot of the story. This book is definitely more character driven than action but I don’t mind that.

A story about sisters, addiction, family, and a mystery thrown in as well. Mickey is a police officer in Philadelphia and her sister Kacey is an addict who lives and works on the streets. Kacey goes missing when a string of murders is happening in the city, and Mickey is trying to find her. The story goes back and forth between the sisters childhood and their struggles growing up to present day, where Mickey is working to find out where her sister is and also figure out who is hurting the women
