Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is a book written by Rick Riordan.
The story is about a twelve year old boy named Percy who attends a boarding school for "troubled kids" At this school he has a friend named Grover who has a disease in his legs that does not enable him to walk well. One day Percy"s school goes a natural history museum. There he discovers that his teacher Mrs. Dodds is some kind of monster. percy defeats her while using a sword his teacher gave him and returns only to discover that no one remembers Mrs. Dodds and Percy"s teacher does not remember the event either. Percy decides to find out why and the story begins.
Percy Jackson lives with his mom, Sally Jackson and his step father who he calls Smelly Gabe. He lives in an apartment in New York. Percy has ADHD and dyslexia. Percy can be very protective over the ones he cares for and very rude to those he does not. Percy can be somewhat impatient as he shows later in the book and to those who are not kind to him or others. Percy has black hair and dresses in a T shirt and baggy pants. Percy can also be curious as he tries to learn why he is the only one who remembers Mrs. Dodds and how she turned into a monster.
I find the plot to be very well constructed as it never bores you and keeps your attention with the weird names of the chapters like, I accidentally vaporized my pre-algebra teacher. The books are also very detailed with the myths of the greek gods and goddesses, as it is very true to what was said in the stories. The characters are fun to read as you always know who is who and can recognize them from just a sentence they would say, you get a very clear idea of who these people are and why you should care about them. The writing style is from Percy"s point of view as he battles the challenges in the series. The theme of the book is centered around Greek myths. It stays very actuate to what was believed by the ancient Greeks. I recommend this book who like action and the Greek mythology. It is a good idea to read these books as the second book just became a movie.
