The Fourth Monkey by JD Barker is the first book in the 4MK trilogy. I’m not going to do an in depth review for this one, I find that really difficult to do with crime/thriller books because once you start writing details, you inevitably give spoilers, or clues to possible twists!

So let me keep this brief and I’ll just tell you why I really enjoyed reading this.

First thing we should talk about is that cover, it's probably my favorite book cover that I own. It's just so pretty, yet spooky, but amazing. Do you enjoy police procedurals? Or what about, a super twisted, might mess your head up a little kind of read? Gory, you ask? OR, how about all of the above? Yes? Yeah, well me too and this book had it all! The Fourth Monkey is about a serial killer, 4MK, that has been eluding capture for several years in Chicago. The task force headed by Sam Porter finally makes a breakthrough in the case, leading them on a fast paced chase to save a kidnapped girl.

This book is intense with a capital I!! I read it in two sittings because I just couldn't put it down!

The characters are amazing and the storyline will hook you right from the start. One caveat though, its not for the squeamish. There were parts that had me almost skimming over them because it got to be a bit much. But it fit in with the backstory, so I get it....but still, that's all that kept me from giving it a five star rating.

La historia atrapa muchísimo y hace que devores el libro sin parar. Le bajo la puntuación a la reseña por dos motivos. El primero, a mi el protagonista no me ha transmitido casi nada. He empatizado mucho más con el asesino que con el detective. Y el segundo, solo hay un personaje femenino de relevancia en la trama y no paran de tirarle comentarios de cuñado neandertal.
