I'm glad to finally see the famous Rowan, but then i started to hate him, a lot. He's an asshole for sure. His tattoos thou, they are cool. and the fact that someone else gets some, nice touch. It dragged towards the 60% mark, but the last 10% made up for everything. I like the MC, she can get whiny thou, and a bit selfish, but she does get treated like shit, so i understand. I was upset to see someone move on, and find someone else, but the twist near the end, made me feel better about her! hah ...more

I found this book better than the last two. It may have been because Celaena was away from Chaol and that kept their sickening romance at bay (Haha jk. Not really though) Aaah…too many thoughts at once. Here goes-

Despite all my complaints, despite all my angst and reluctance against this book, despite all my stupidly stubborn insistence on a certain romantic pair, this book was amazing. Firstly, Heir of Fire is amazing. Absolutely and entirely amazing. I have to admit that I was really hesitant about reading it at first, and I don’t even know why. I love this book though, and it has without a doubt been one of the best Throne of Glass books that I have read so far.

Heir of Fire has three different stories woven throughout it, so this review will kinda be split into three different parts.

The first part of the story is set back in Adarlan, and it follows Chaol, Dorian, and Aedio Firstly, Heir of Fire is amazing. Absolutely and entirely amazing. I have to admit that I was really hesitant about reading it at first, and I don’t even know why. I love this book though, and it has without a doubt been one of the best Throne of Glass books that I have read so far.

Heir of Fire has three different stories woven throughout it, so this review will kinda be split into three different parts.

The first part of the story is set back in Adarlan, and it follows Chaol, Dorian, and Aedion, Celaena’s cousin. To be honest, this was my least favorite of the storylines, but it was still necessary enough to the plot of the Throne of Glass series that I really enjoyed it. While Adarlan’s story is just one section of the book, there is really two stories set up there.

One of the stories set up here is about Chaol and Aedion. Aedion is general of the king’s army, and the first thing that usually comes to mind is that he is an awful traitor who does not deserve happiness. BUT HE’S SO MUCH FUN. You find out where his true loyalties lie when Chaol tells Aedion who Celaena/Aelin really is, and Aedion almost falls to the floor in amazement that his cousin is alive. Honestly, the Aedion/Aelin relationship, and the deep love for each other is the most amazing part of the book. They don’t actually get to meet each other, so most of their entwined relationship is told through flashbacks of the time before the heirs of Terrasen are killed. It’s so cute, and I just need Aelin and Aedion to meet because I knew when it happens that they will just weep and hold each other in the midst of a battle and then go on to kick ass together. The other part of the Aedion/Chaol story that demands attention is Chaol’s side, which was firmly frustrating. Chaol is stuck between supporting the woman he loves and the king that he has been trained since birth comes before anyone and anything else. Literally everyone begs him to choose a side, but the whole time he skirts around the issue in only a fashion that Chaol can. Chaol in this book was not my favorite, but I had patience with him, because I was reminded myself that he is just a diamond in the rough. The only thing that kept me going for his story was that in the end he was going to be redeemed or killed.

The other part of Adarlan’s story line was Dorian and his coming to grips with his powers. Another significant part of Dorian’s story line is that he meets Sorscha, who is a healer in the castle that has been hopelessly in love with him. As Fate would have it, he takes one look at her, and he’s done in that moment. He is in love with her, and she is in love with him. This love story is quite possibly the best thing that I have ever read, and I was so happy to have Dorian get a girl who was unproblematic and nice and perfect. She risks everything to help him, and they are honestly perfect for each other, UNTIL THE KING BEHEADS HER. HE JUST BEHEADS HER, AND DORIAN IS A MESS, AND IT WAS AWFUL. The only good thing that came from that was that is that I think that will be the push that allows Dorian to become a man again, EXCEPT IT’S GONNA BE A WHILE SINCE NOW HIS BODY IS HOST TO A VALG PRINCE.

I’m mad. Dorian just needs happiness at this point, and just when his life couldn’t get worse, it does.

The second part of Heir of Fire, follows Manon Blackbeak, heir of the Blackbeak Clan, which is a faction of witches of the Ironteeth Clan. It first, I was least excited for her story, because it is almost completely unconnected to Aelin’s story. But she gets redeemed when she selects her wyvern to ride on, which is basically a dragon. She chooses the scrappy underdog Wyvern (but really they choose each other). There is not much else that I can say except that I love Abraxos. So much. So freaking much. Most of the time when we had scenes with Manon and Abraxos, I pictured Toothless and Hiccup except in reverse. The thing I am most excited for in dealing with Manon’s story, is her flipping over to Celaena’s side, which seems kind of inevitable, even before her encounter with the Crochan witch. I know that it will take a lot of convincing. I have this naggling suspicion that Aelin and Manon are going to get in a fight of epic proportions, and I’m so ready for that, honestly.

The last section of the story that demands attention is Celaena’s. Her story throughout this downright amazing. She goes through so much excruciating development in the book that honestly brings me to so much tears, because she’s ready. In this moment, she is at the deepest point of depression and self-hatred, but as her story goes on, she meets a man who is experiencing the same thing that she is. At the end of the book, however, she is ready to be the queen that she has never wanted to become. She is so lovely, and she is a woman now. She is the queen that all of Terrasen has prayed for, and I’M SO EXCITED FOR THE REST OF THE STORY. At this point, she has experienced every emotion, and she was a diamond in the rough, but now she is sparkling, and I just feel this complete sense of readiness.

This book is a book of character development. Chaol chooses a side. Dorian is becoming the king that his birthright entitles him to be. Manon is unfreezing her heart. Aelin finally has accessed her sense of responsibilty. All of the amazing character development has been my favorite part of the book.

One argument that is near constant is who Celaena will end up with. While I have only read three of the four books out, I don’t feel that Celaena will end up with any of the potential love interests that are presented. There’s Dorian, Chaol, Rowan, and maybe Aedion (but I don’t think that’s likely). In my opinion, I don’t think Aelin or any of those love interests are ready for a relationship, and if she does end up with one of those, there has to be much more development before it even feels right. Right now, I ship Celaena with happiness. I just want to be happy in whatever path that she chooses, and I know that Sarah will let her and let us have that.

If I hadn’t said this enough, I loved this book. I loved it. It’s a favorite.
