Este es uno de esos libros que me ha decepcionado bastante. Esperé mucho más. La portada es hermosa. La sinopsis provoca. Pero es realmente aburrido.

Nyx fue bastante contradictoria desde el comienzo. Me aburrió con sus explicaciones al comienzo del libro. Eso hizo que el ritmo de la lectura no fuera tan ágil, y que terminara aburriéndome. Me hubiera gustado que tuviera una personalidad definida. Fue bastante molesto verla llorando por su familia después de que la habían tratado tan mal. Su padre no la quiere; la hizo casarse con el Señor Benévolo para que así ella pudiera asesinarlo y librar al reino de su maldad, sabiendo que eso era muy poco probable. No me puede gustar una protagonista que en un minuto está llorando por haber sido casada con un monstruo, y al otro está besándose con uno. Realmente no entendí la actitud de Nyx. Es cierto que cuando llegas a despreciar al personaje principal, pierdes el interés en la lectura.

No entiendo el punto de crear un triángulo amoroso. Shade me cayó mal desde que apareció. Simplemente no me daba buena espina. Con Ignifex fue algo un poco diferente. Me gustó su personaje. Pero pienso que hubiera sido mejor si la autora hubiera explotado más su lado malvado. Su encuentro con Nyx fue poco memorable. Me pareció bastante descuidado. La autora tuvo una gran chance para crear una relación de amor/odio, pero creo que la desperdició.

Otro aspecto negativo del libros, es que es un tanto aburrido. La constante búsqueda y exploración que realiza Nyx en todo el castillo, resulta tediosa. Entiendo que ella tratara de buscar Los Corazones de noséquécosa (realmente no recuerdo el nombre exacto), pero pienso que parte de ese tiempo pudo haber sido empleado en el desarrollo de la relación de Nyx con Ignifex. Eso es lo que pienso que carecía en el libro: desarrollo.

Este libro tenía potencial. Deberían haber sido aprovechada la historia sobre la bella y la bestia. Pero no sucedió así. Me voy completamente decepcionada. No les recomiendo este libro para nada. ...more

I enjoyed this book, but I think because I knew how it was going to end, it took away from some of the story. I did like the adaptation, but maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it. I do recommend this, for anyone who likes The Beauty and the Beast. I did enjoy the characters, but I think I would have done part of the adaptation differently. ...more

This book was so enjoyable and addicting. i couldn't stop reading it! 4/5 stars!

This book is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. But its so much more than that. Its set in a fantasy world thats twisted and complicated and mixed with some mythology. I loved the world building and how the author explained everything that was going on perfectly. The ending wrapped everything up so nicely. A lot of people found it confusing but I was able to keep up with the plot and understand what was going on. This book was so enjoyable and addicting. i couldn't stop reading it! 4/5 stars!

A lot of people found it confusing but I was able to keep up with the plot and understand what was going on. I loved it and my only problems with it was the building of the relationship. I loved the love story but i feel like it could have been done slightly better.

Now for a more in-depth review of the book. ****POSSIBLE SPOILERS*******

This book was written so wonderfully. The writing and world building were amazing and very well-done. It was clear and easy to follow but also descriptive and captivating. i loved it.

Nyx was a wonderful main character. She was strong in spite of all the shitty things about her life. she was pretty kick-ass and she knew what she needed to do. I do think she was a little impulsive in terms of where her heart was and what she wanted romantically.

I loved loved loved Ignifex. He was so clearly a nice guy despite all the lives he had to ruin. He was snarky and witty and fun overall. I knew I would love him as a character as soon as he and Nyx had their first encounter the day after their "marriage". He was a complex character that was easy to love and i felt so bad for him in a couple scenes.

I didn't care for Shade at all. I was glad with the way the story ended because a semi and very unecessary love triangle was forming. shade to me was boring and kind of an extra character in terms of the love story that didn't need to be there. But I could see how he was relevant to the plot.

The love story was were my feelings got a bit complicated. I loved Ignifex and I loved Nyx. And I loved them together. But it felt like Nyx went from hate to love a little quickly. There wasn't a "like but denying my attraction" stage that I feel is a litte necessary in order to have a great love story that develops nicely. I could see why Ignifex loved Nyx and vice versa, but it went from hate to love to suddenly to give me those gooey feelings.

As far as the plot goes there is a certain timeframe in which you kind of didn't know what the plot was. As it unfolds it becomes clear to me who Shade and Ignifex were and I feel like that was supposed to be a big reveal. I saw it coming a mile away. The book was still very addicting. i couldn't put it down. As i mentioned everything wrapped up so perfectly and I was very happy about that. About halfway throughout the book, I learned that this was a stand alone and I was really upset because I was loving it and wanted more. But the ending was so wonderful and I was able to close the door on this book without any questions or feelings of hatred for the author.

I loved this book. I would say its for anyone who is a fan of fantasy and romance. Don't let the re-telling aspect push you away from this book because its not the biggest part of the book overall. I highly recommend this book and I wish it were a series. ...more

Her father has promised her in marriage to a monster, and trained her all her life to kill him. Nyx resents her father, but means to do her duty anyway. Until she’s actually married to the Gentle Lord. Then, things get complicated.

Here’s the fastest way to describe this story: Cupid and Psyche meets Tam Lin.

If you like versions of Beauty and the Beast, or C.S. Lewis’ Till We Have Faces, you should start drooling.
